CRIT RESPONSES first impression from the work
To the log on beach with soundtrack on a big projector and my licking video on a small monitor screen beside it.
the layout was distracting with two three screens ( I had to have a lap top to play through projector , won't use that next time)
Music was initially a little pitchy and loud
The work has a real animal like quality
Couldn't see the relationship between the two videos. how they interlinked.
shape, interchangeable - the body and tree.
The videos are very separate works.
Women making videos of themselves. History of representation of women?
Illusive fugitive character in log footage. Never get to see the full figure.
Withheld. hide and seek
Where as Licking video was highly, overtly sexual. strongly erotic.
center frame in the smaller video
I should try testing working out he relationship. Is is more unsettling to have the videos the other way round? the log on the small screen and the table licking on the big projector?
Or is the log film enough on its own?
they don't go together.
Log footage is compelling
The two together you can't help but compare the domesticate women vs the wild women on the beach
Are these comparisons purposeful?
Content. what is happening? there is a sense of longing. It's frightening.
conjures up a strange feeling
mixed feelings. Scary at first but as time goes on , the scene becomes comforting ( the log scene) anxious at first.
The first shot of the hair is scary , then becomes a soft and beautiful re ac-curing theme .
Fearful . then wanting to see where the figure is in the scene, where as at the beginning it was uncomfortable to see the figure.
Dragged into the scene by the colour of hair and legs
EHight- tree becoming the surport. the heigh of he tree.
the Log scene is a construction
a nest of some sort. a cast away house.
siren on a shoreline. mystical, alone, mythical
the table scene, a sense of love. a siren figure. a performed sexual act. body is like an insect.
Both works are somehow predatory. the vulnerability is predatory.
A feeling of being captured
Storm boy ( log scene) reference jersey. spun and knitted ruff , constructed very natural .
Natural vs very slick.

Pervasive sense for the licking video
Brings to mind Matthew Barney . THe oddity, and sexually conjoined. could make clearer.
